Drugs are detectable in the blood for a very short period of time after use. 24 hours is average while, depend on the amount of usage, up to 48 hours is possible. Screening the blood for drugs is most beneficial to determine whether or not an individual was under the influence at the time of an incident. After an incident has occurred, it is best to have the individuals blood sample collected within 18 hours.

Negative test results for blood drug screenings are typically available in 7 to 10 business days, not including the day of collection. Test results can be emailed, mailed or faxed immediately upon being received. Positive test results for blood drug screenings can take up to an additional 2 weeks for confirmation.
