Georgia to Be First State to Provide Medical Marijuana in Independent Pharmacies

Georgia is making history–it will soon be the first state in the nation to provide medical marijuana in independent pharmacies. Medical marijuana will not be available in chain pharmacies like CVS or Walgreens.

Instead, the Georgia Board of Pharmacy is reviewing applications of independent pharmacies. So far, nearly 120 pharmacies have been approved to supply low-grade THC oil from Botanical Sciences.

Low-grade THC oil contains no more than 5% THC, which is the compound that gives users the infamous euphoric high.

There are strict policies about who can purchase medical marijuana. Only Georgian residents are approved, and they must have a severe illness such as:

  • seizures
  • terminal cancers
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • post-traumatic stress disorder.

Georgians must have a state-issued low THC oil registry card and identification in order to purchase medical marijuana.

It’s likely that with this advance in Georgia, other states will begin providing medical marijuana. While this substance can be helpful for many people, it still needs to be used under a doctor’s recommended dose. Medical marijuana still carries a risk of potential addiction.
