How Well Does CBD Work for Joint Pain?

CBD’s popularity has been climbing over the past decade. Part of the reason for CBD’s popularity is its multi-use ability. Similar to over-the-counter pain relievers, CBD has been used for a myriad of aches and pains. But CBD’s benefits extend beyond pain relief and has been used for:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Major illnesses, such as cancer
  • Epilepsy

While CBD may seem like it is trendy among younger generations, the AARP recently published the results of two studies that showed CBD effectively reduced arthritis pain in those 65 years and older.

One study found that CBD helped with basal joint arthritis, which is arthritis in the thumb joint and can make gripping items painful. When participants rubbed a topical CBD oil on their arthritic thumb, their pain was significantly reduced.

The other study looked at the overall effects of CBD for participants with arthritis. 83% of participants noticed a reduction in pain and an improvement in sleep.

The AARP strongly cautioned readers to consult with their physician before and while taking CBD, as CBD is poorly regulated and can interfere with certain medications.

While this caution is intended for older adults, the caution applies to anyone of any age. Since CBD is a multi-purpose aid for pains, illnesses, and mental health issues, many employees are likely using CBD–either routinely or sporadically. It’s vital to always keep CBD as a possibility for any unusual or troublesome behavior in your employees to ensure the safety of your staff and customers.
