Is CBD the New Opioid for Dental Pain?

Using the FDA-approved drug Epidiolex, an oral CBD solution, researchers divided study subjects with moderate to severe toothaches into two groups. One group was given a single dose of Epidiolex, and the other was given a placebo. The CBD group was also split into two more groups, one with a higher dose of Epidiolex and the other with a lower dose.

Both CBD groups reported significant pain reduction compared to the placebo group. Maximum pain reduction peaked about 180 minutes after administration. The study found the median pain relief was 73 percent at the 180-minute mark.

While this is an exciting breakthrough for those who can’t have OTC pain medications, it’s vital for employers to know when CBD is provided as an alternative to conventional drugs.
